Demo: How newsroom voter guides can answer in AI chatbots
People are asking AI chatbots who to vote for. Newsrooms reporting on the candidates aim to help citizens make informed choices by producing voter guides in every election cycle. But do AI platforms know where to find the guides, and to quote from them accurately?
Voter Guide Commons is a Hacks/Hackers pilot that gives AI platforms like Claude and ChatGPT direct access to journalist-produced voter guides, naming the newsroom source and linking back to it. Wisconsin Watch and Planet Detroit are the first two newsrooms whose guides are included.
In this 30-minute session, Burt Herman will demo how it works: what a voter sees when they ask about a race and how a newsroom can add its own guide. We'll also take your questions.
It's for newsrooms that publish a voter guide and for anyone curious about how reporting can show up in AI answers.
