About Event

Insurance is one of the most important—yet under-discussed—tools for protecting communities from crisis. As climate change accelerates the frequency and severity of disasters, insurance markets are shifting, and many households are left more vulnerable, not less. In many parts of the world, rising costs, limited coverage, and market instability are threatening the very safety nets people rely on for their health, homes, and livelihoods.

This discussion group will explore the rapidly changing role of insurance in an era of compounding risks, and what’s needed to make coverage more equitable, innovative, and accessible. From climate-linked products to policy reforms and local innovations, participants will share what’s working—and what’s not—when it comes to building resilience through financial protection.

Key Questions:

  • How is climate change reshaping the availability and affordability of insurance around the world?

  • What types of insurance innovations (e.g. parametric, microinsurance, public-private models) are emerging to address climate and health risks?

  • How can policy, regulation, and cross-sector partnerships help expand access to meaningful coverage for low-income and vulnerable populations?

  • What role should philanthropy, governments, and private insurers play in building equitable insurance systems?

  • What examples have you seen of community-driven or regionally tailored insurance models that improve resilience and recovery?

This session is open to insurers, policymakers, innovators, and community leaders who want to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and explore the future of risk and protection in a warming world.
