AI x Bio Seminar : Protein Database Search Strategies in Proteomics
Good evening
🧬 AI × Bio Seminar: Where does proteomics data actually come from?
📅 3 September · 18:00–19:30
📍 Amalienstraße 17, 80333 München
We're hosting Dmitry Alexeev, Proteomics Data Scientist at the startup ions.bio, working on mass spectrometry based proteomics and the software pipelines that turn raw measurements into protein information.
He will walk through how proteomics data is generated in the first place: how DDA and DIA measurements are acquired on a mass spectrometer, what the resulting data actually looks like, and how features are extracted from it. With a focus on DIA, he will then show how proteomic libraries are built, how extracted features are matched against them, and how false discovery rate control keeps the results trustworthy, using MaxQuant and DIA-NN as practical examples.
The talk is aimed at anyone curious about what sits underneath a protein table, no mass spectrometry background needed, and will highlight both what current software does well and where it still struggles.
Afterwards, there will be a networking session with food and drinks to exchange ideas and connect with others interested in AI, proteomics and biotech.
