Join us on October 16 for around us // inside us, day two of Culture Push’s 2026 Show Don’t Tell Symposium, with multisensory experiences that call on us to examine our relationship with the natural world: that which exists within and outside of us; those we can and cannot impact or control.

A tapestry composed of quilt squares dyed with locally foraged materials serves as a meditation on place, an incomplete archive of coastal peripherals and a point of departure for a multi-media performance lecture examining the intersection of flooding, and real estate speculation in Red Hook and the Columbia Street Waterfront District.

A small ceremony for remembering the invisible relationships that make us who we are. Explore the relationships within and around you through ecological divination, symbolic encounters, and chance.
Shenghan Gao • Invasive Kin
An interactive presentation that recounts a year of endeavors to understand the concept of "invasive kin," specifically through the plant portal of "mugwort." The presentation will not be an ordinary powerpoint, but a nonlinear telling that will include an origin story of the project, how the artist met each of her collaborators, tangents that led her to the core of the project, the people who fed her throughout, the attempts (workshops) she did in New York, the connections and plant relatives in China, as well as some film clips and physical traces from this journey.

This October at our ninth Show Don’t Tell symposium, Culture Push will bring together artists, activists, neighbors, dreamers for three days of conversations and experiences. Show Don’t Tell: A Symposium with The Fellowship for Utopian Practice is a yearly opportunity to get an up-close and participatory view into the projects of artists working at the intersection of their imaginations, social change, and civic participation.
