Speaker Bio Konrad is a recent MA Philosophy and AI graduate who researches the impact of future digital moral patients on society. His MA dissertation concerned the challenge of politically including beings that can be easily duplicated. He has also conducted AI moral patiency research through the Future Impact Group fellowship under the supervision of Bradford Saad (political challenges) and Jeff Sebo (digital mind individuation).
Abstract This seminar will introduce the concept of digital moral patients (beings who matter for their own sake and thus require moral consideration), examining potential types of digital minds and the routes through which they might acquire moral status. We will explore risks associated with both over-attributing and under-attributing moral worth to digital systems and the implications of recognising artificial moral patients for society and democracies.
