

Catie Cuan // Physical AI: Giving AI a Robot Body
Join us Tuesday, October 27th at 5:30 PM for a talk with Dr. Catie Cuan, entrepreneur, engineer, artist, and pioneer in the emerging field of choreorobotics. Working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, robotics, and human-robot interaction, Catie explores how movement shapes the way we perceive and relate to machines. She is the founder of ART Lab (AI Robot Technology), and has led work across institutions including Stanford University and the Exploratorium, where she served as artist in residence.
In her talk, Physical AI: Giving AI a Robot Body, Catie will explore what happens as AI moves beyond screens and into the physical world. As robots become more intelligent, how they move becomes just as important as what they can do. Drawing on her unique background in dance and robotics, she argues that movement is not just functional, but expressive, shaping emotion, trust, and human connection. Through examples from her work, including training robots to improvise, respond to human gestures, and move collectively, she will show how choreography can inform the design of more intuitive, responsive, and human-centered machines.
