The Endless Garden: How Co-Creation Transforms Museum Engagement with Lois He and Vio Zhu of HYZ Studio

​The Endless Garden at the Dalí Museum, created in collaboration with HYZ Studio, explores how immersive, participatory storytelling can turn passive audiences into active participants. By designing for personal connection first, the experience drives measurable engagement: a 54% share and download rate, and a 31% “Learn More” click-through rate—revealing a strong appetite for deeper exploration of Salvador Dalí’s symbolic world.

​This talk breaks down both the design strategy and technical system behind these results. On the design side, we examine how co-creation fosters curiosity, ownership, and dialogue. On the technical side, we share how we built an AI-driven 3D pipeline that enables artistic quality and avoids the generic “AI look.” We’ll also compare leading 3D AI tools, highlighting their strengths across geometry, texture, and production workflows. Finally, we reveal how we deliver unique, personalized experiences for each visitor using a limited pool of 3D assets—balancing scalability, system performance, and narrative richness.

Lois He is a film director turned transmedia narrative artist and creative technologist. Her work spans XR, film, games, and installation, exploring how identity and memory are shaped by perception and technology. Her projects have been featured at SIGGRAPH, SXSW Sydney, the Dali Museum, and ARTECHOUSE NYC, with films screened at Festival de Cannes Rendez-Vous Industry and Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.

Vio Zhu is a creative technologist and former software engineer with over six years at Google and Apple.She creates immersive, storytelling-driven interactive experiences for brands and cultural institutions, including LVMH, Coach, ARTECHOUSE NYC, and the Dalí Museum, focusing on audience participation and narrative engagement.
