INTRODUCING MIXED*

A first-of-its-kind film showcase celebrating human storytelling in all its evolving forms—cinematic craft, generative AI, and the messy middle in between.

As the creative landscape shifts, MIXED* brings filmmakers, artists, and technologists together to explore how we create, how we work, and why it all matters.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Part film showcase, part creative lab, part platform for conversation—MIXED* is a collaborative experiment at the edge of storytelling.

Curated by a multidisciplinary Selection Committee of industry leaders and practitioners, the MIXED* program moves beyond technical demonstrations to foreground films where storytelling, intention, and craft drive the work—regardless of the tools involved.

Program highlights include:

Global Film Showcase
A curated selection of short films spanning all genres, each blending human-led filmmaking with emerging generative workflows and traditional techniques. Films to be screened:

Céremony — Directed by Mark Wachholz

The Tin Woods — Directed by Nick Boxwell

BLUE — Directed by Felipe Valério

The Hum — Directed by Olaf Taranczewski

Railbound — Directed by Jonathan Perry

Live Panel Conversation
A moderated discussion bringing together voices from film, creative agencies, education, and technology—designed to move past “debate theater” toward substance.

The panel will be moderated by Adam Davis, Executive Director of Oregon Humanities, and will include Nishat Akhtar (Chief Creative Officer, Instrument), Mike Vogel (YouTube Creator, AI Video School), Suzame Tong (AI Leadership, Level Seven), and Steven Golliday (Documentary Film Editor, Independent).

Opening Act
Live Musical Performance by Yawa.

The Asterisk Award
A vote will be cast by the audience in attendance and presented to the film that best embodies the ethos of MIXED*—emotional depth, creative curiosity, and a thoughtful integration of humanity and technology.

Community Mixer
A chance to connect with peers, share ideas, and reflect on Portland’s role in shaping the future of global storytelling.

WHO IT’S FOR
