+ About the Lab

What have the world’s most innovative governments, changemakers, and businesses done to stay ahead of the curve while advancing climate mitigation, adaptation, and Just Transition innovations? They have upskilled their best and brightest leaders in the art of anticipation, a.k.a strategic foresight. Come learn strategic foresight skills at the first-ever Climate Futures Literacy Lab in Delhi, organized by Aayaan Singh Jamwal through his initiative The Playshops.

What is strategic foresight? What do the world's most prosperous countries and businesses use it for? And how do you use these powerful tools today to effect change through more powerful campaigns or valuable products?

In this hands-on, high-energy workshop lab, you will answer these questions. You will be immersed in anticipating and envisioning possible futures through gamification and creative strategic foresight tools. Some of the skills you will learn are: signal scanning, scenario planning, visioning, and creating artefacts from the future. Join the ranks of global leaders from the UN, Finland, Denmark, South Korea and many more — they have used the same foresight tools you will to address the biggest climate and social problems of their countries.

Expect to be activated, challenged, and inspired!

(Psst... Here's the story behind The Playshops!) Futures Literacy Labs are an innovative workshop format that Dr Riel Miller started at UNESCO in 2012. At The Playshops, Aayaan has not only built on UNESCO's open-source approach, he has also innovated gamified and creative tools that are rooted in India's present-day realities and rich cultural knowledge forms. The Playshops delivers custom-tailored futures literacy curricula and 21st-century skills programs to schools, colleges, and organisational clients.

+ About your Host

Mr. Aayaan Singh Jamwal is an internationally acclaimed program designer and justice-based foresight practitioner who directs The Playshops for Flourishing Futures. He is also the creator of a new card game called Climatch, perfect for families and friends who want to make climate conversations more fun.

Aayaan got his start in climate in 2019, when 350.org USA selected him for its Climate Leadership program. Working in Multnomah County government at the time, he volunteered on the frontlines of the devastating June 2021 heatwave in Portland, Oregon. That tragedy galvanised him to help increase foresight and decrease preventable deaths that occur during climate disasters due to a lack of collaboration and anticipatory planning.

At Metropolitan Group, he contributed critical research insights and shaped climate and public health programs for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Harvard T.H Chan School, Brown University, RAND, EDF. Last year, Mariwala Health Foundation supported Aayaan to conduct his futures literacy trainings in 5 states through The Playshops. Since 2022, Aayaan has trained 300+ leaders from 11 countries to harness the power of their imagination to advance social and climate action. Aayaan is a proud Terra.do fellow and UWC Davis Scholar.
