Preserving memory through the Tactile and Textile
Preserving memory through the Tactile and Textile
Exploring Memory and Materiality through zine-making and textiles.
Participants are invited to explore memory, how it feels, and how it can be translated into visual elements and narrative. The topic of memory is deliberately broad and open-ended, encouraging participants to bring their own touch, perspective and agency to the process of making. No prior experience is required, all levels of makers are welcome.
Working with textiles and zine-making methods such as folding, layering, and stitching, the workshop invites reflection on what holds us and how we hold others. Using simple, everyday materials, it strives to bring making closer to people’s hands and lives, showing that creativity and meaning can emerge from what surrounds us.
Tactility is vulnerability, in the hands of others and our own.
The fabrics of our lives envelop us, carrying memories and stories.
Participants will:
● Experiment with combining textiles and paper through folding, layering, and stitching
● Translate personal or collective memories into tactile, visual narratives
● Explore self-expression, storytelling, and reflection through making
● Discover that art-making can be accessible, meaningful, and embedded in everyday life
