About Event

Join us for the October Career Advancement Monthly Meetup brought to you by MCJ and Radhika Bhatt (Saathe Studio)

Layoffs can be disorienting and scary to experience, but they can also be a turning point for your career. Join us for an honest and supportive conversation about how to navigate career transitions with resilience and strategy. This event is open to anyone who has recently experienced a layoff, including federal employees, tech workers, nonprofit workers, and anyone else who has been impacted. Whether you’re in the middle of a transition or simply preparing for what’s next, this discussion will leave you with clarity, encouragement, and practical next steps.

In this session, we’ll explore:

  • What to do right after a layoff

  • How to rest and reset without losing momentum

  • When (and how) to restart your job search

  • Strategies to land your next role in climate or social impact

  • How to talk about your layoff in interviews with confidence

Meet our speakers:

Joe O'Connor is the CEO of Career Pivot. He and his team help guide a community of professionals, most with backgrounds in international development, social impact, or the federal workforce, through career transitions amidst the profound challenges of a turbulent professional landscape. His approach to leadership is grounded in empathy, curiosity, collaboration, and personal empowerment. Joe’s professional background covers a decade of providing training and project management support to contracts with the Department of State, Army, Navy, and USAID. This deep immersion in the federal space instilled a profound sense of mission and a commitment to helping build a brighter tomorrow. In 2023, Joe founded Skill Monkey Coaching, where he helps clients seeking support in the areas of personal finance and career development.

Kyle Dietrich is the Founder and Executive Director of Grounded Idealist, an organization that empowers changemakers to continue serving. Kyle is an international development leader, social entrepreneur, and trauma-informed leadership coach. With 25+ years implementing peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance, and learning & development programs, Kyle is passionate about cultivating community, healing, and transformative social change in times of transition. Rooted in the belief that investments in our inner and social soil are critical for outer development, Kyle has proudly worked for USAID, the Peace Corps, UN Peacekeeping, Equal Access, and Mercy Corps.

This session will be participatory, and we encourage all folks to join - regardless of exposure to climate tech prior to the call.
