🌟 Apache Iceberg REST Catalog: What’s New and What’s Next
The Iceberg REST Catalog is quickly becoming the go-to way of connecting different engines and platforms to Apache Iceberg tables. But what does it actually solve, and where is the community taking it next? In this session, we’ll start with a quick intro to the REST Catalog and why it’s needed, before diving into hot topics like security, authentication, and fine-grained access control. We’ll also explore the latest developments in the community — including the new Events Endpoint — and talk about what’s coming down the road. If you’re curious about how Iceberg REST is shaping the future of open lakehouses, this is your chance to get up to speed and join the discussion.
Viktor Kessler, is Co-Founder of Vakamo and the creator of Lakekeeper, an Apache Licensed Iceberg REST Catalog. He’s a big believer in open standards like Apache Iceberg, which he sees as the backbone of today’s modern, composable Data & Analytics systems.
🌟 Iceberg and Diskless: A Unified Architecture for Streaming and Analytics
Apache Kafka data has historically been expensive to store and difficult to analyze, often requiring complex ETL just to get streams into a data lake. In this session, we’ll explore a new paradigm that runs Standard, Diskless, and Iceberg Topics side-by-side within a single cluster. We’ll dive into practical use cases: keeping standard topics for sub-100ms latency, using Iceberg Topics to turn streams into native tables for zero-ETL analytics, and leveraging Diskless Topics to cut costs on high-volume logs.
Guilherme Caminha is a Senior Software Engineer with nearly a decade of experience across backend systems and cloud environments and a strong focus on backend development and modern Python engineering. At Aiven, he contributes to building and improving the company’s managed Kafka platform, helping ensure reliable services and smooth operations for customers worldwide.
🌟 Iceberg v3: Solving Delete Performance, Schema Evolution, and Semi-Structured Data Challenges
Cesar Vinicius Züge a seasoned Senior Data Engineer with deep expertise in building large-scale, high-frequency data platforms across automotive and enterprise environments. Specializing in Apache Iceberg–based Lakehouse architectures, they have led complex migrations, designed end-to-end pipelines with Spark, Flink, and Airflow/Dagster, and delivered robust data quality and governance solutions.
🌟 Data engineering for AI/ML with Apache Iceberg on AWS
Hassan Bhatti is a Senior Analytics Specialist at AWS. Experienced data architect, data scientist, and software engineer with master’s degree in computer engineering. Having leadership experience as product owner and scrum master. Professional experience in telecom industry, IT consulting and social welfare. Calm and humble personality, perceived as insightful, self-driven and cooperative by the colleagues.
