Moving is simple, but moving your wealth isn't
A 1-hour money workshop for people thinking about moving between Canada and the US - or already living it.
Toronto is one of the greatest places to build, work, and live. But careers in tech can move quickly, and sometimes that means crossing the Canada-US border. You might be heading south for a new role, coming north to settle in Toronto, or living somewhere in between.
For people in tech, moving across the border is a paperwork problem until it becomes a money problem. Some accounts come with you, some get taxed twice, and some stop working the moment you change your address.
I learned this the hard way - moving from Canada to the US for my MBA at Kellogg, working there, and coming back. It was more complex than it should have been.
Now I spend time helping people on both sides of the border avoid these complicated issues.
This workshop is for:
Canadians eyeing the US,
Americans working in Toronto, and
returning Canadians sorting out what they left behind
What we'll cover:
What happens to your RSUs and ISOs when you cross the border
Which accounts come with you, and which ones don't: TFSA, RRSP, RESP, 401(k), Roth IRA, brokerage
How tax residency actually works, and timing the switch
Investment and asset issues that show up after the move
You'll leave knowing what to ask, what to fix, and what to leave alone.
