ClimART Cafe & LMCC Artist Studio Tour
🎨 ClimART Cafe
In this ClimART Cafe (art tour meets Climate Cafe), you’ll have the opportunity to share your emotions about climate change with a caring, concerned community, then go on a studio tour to explore the creative artwork of Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) resident artists–whose art practices focus on climate. Art has the capacity to resonate with our deepest emotions, and this gathering within the LMCC creative studio space at The Arts Center offers space for reflection and imagination.
☕ What to Expect
We’ll begin with a Climate Cafe in the gallery (introductions, grounding meditation, and open up prompted discussion of our climate feelings) led by LMCC resident artist Nicole Cooper, in partnership with Climate Cafe NYC and Climate Imaginarium. Then we’ll tour studios of 2-3 resident artists. After the tour, feel free to optionally continue your tour solo up until 5:00 PM as a part of LMCC’s Open Studio event.
No previous art knowledge or Climate Cafe experience necessary. Join us!

🎨 About the Facilitator
Nicole Cooper is a climate-focused artist whose work explores our emotional relationship with a planet in crisis. As a participant in Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Arts Center Residency program, she is currently exploring what it means to be carbon-based lifeforms navigating a carbon crisis, experimenting with materials drawn from Earth's carbon cycle—like handmade mushroom paper and captured carbon paint.
🌍 About the Climate Imaginarium
This event is in partnership with the Climate Imaginarium, which is a center for climate, community, and culture in New York City. Located on Governors Island, the Climate Imaginarium is activating a cultural destination at the heart of New York City’s burgeoning green economy, where artists, scientists, advocates, and storytellers come together to reimagine and build a more resilient future.
⛵PLAN AHEAD: Getting to the Arts Center on Governors Island
The Arts Center is conveniently located on Governors Island and accessible by a short eight-minute ferry ride from Lower Manhattan to Governors Island, and a one-minute walk from Soissons Landing ferry pier. The Arts Center is located at 110 Andes Road, New York, NY 10004 (island map). Studios are located on the second floor, we recommend entering from the door on the Andes Rd side of the building (by the CityBike racks). Once inside, follow the ClimART Cafe signs.
Take the ferry that’s most convenient for you from either Lower Manhattan (10 South Street), Brooklyn Bridge Park (Pier 6), or Red Hook/Atlantic Basin. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your ferry departure time with your ticket ready to display.
From Manhattan:
The Arts Center is accessible by ferries to Governors Island departing to and from Lower Manhattan. Ferries operated by the Trust for Governors Island run daily from the Battery Maritime Building, located at 10 South Street in Lower Manhattan. Our building is located to the right of Soissons Landing.
From Brooklyn:
NYC Ferry serves Governors Island daily on the South Brooklyn route, with stops at Sunset Park, Red Hook, Yankee Pier on Governors Island, Atlantic Ave/Brooklyn Bridge Park-Pier 6, Wall Street/Pier 11, DUMBO/Fulton Ferry and Corlears Hook on the Lower East Side.
Taking the Ferry:
For complete ferry schedules and directions to Governors Island ferry terminals, visit the Governors Island website: https://www.govisland.com/plan-your-visit/ferry. All ferries are wheelchair-accessible.
Ferry tickets must be purchased at the ferry terminal or online in advance of boarding. Fares are $5 for a round trip ticket and free for adults over 65, children 12 and under, and others. All passengers ride free before 11am on weekends. Cars are not permitted.
Alternatively, Governors Island is also accessible from any route via the NYC Ferry by transferring at Wall Street/Pier 11. You can find the NYC Ferry schedule here. Tickets on NYC Ferry are $4.50 each way.
