About Event

The most sustainable garment is the one already in your closet. Join us for a relaxed afternoon of stitching, where a stain, a hole, or a plain old shirt becomes something you’ll want to keep wearing.

We’ll focus on simple, beginner-friendly techniques: basic embroidery, cross-stitch, and sashiko, a Japanese style of decorative stitching that’s used to reinforce and mend fabric. You can trace a design onto your clothing, browse pattern books for inspiration, reinforce a worn spot with a fabric scrap, or add a stitched border to freshen up something you already love. Example pieces will be on hand to spark ideas.

We’ll also talk briefly about clothing’s environmental footprint and why keeping clothes in use longer is one of the simplest ways to reduce it. Stitching has always been something people do together, so come ready to connect and share ideas with your neighbors at the table. You’ll leave with a revamped piece you’ll love for longer.

No experience is needed.

What to bring: A piece of clothing you’d like to mend or embellish, any fabric scraps or patches you’d like to use, and ideas or inspiration for what you’d like to make. If you don’t bring anything, we’ll have practice fabric.

What we provide: Embroidery hoops, needles, thread, fabric scraps, tracing supplies, pattern books, and guidance.

Getting here: Common Project is at 348 S Cedros Ave, Solana Beach, CA 92075, about a 5–10 minute walk south on Cedros from the Solana Beach Transit Center. Cedros is flat and bike-friendly. Street parking fills up on weekends, so consider carpooling.

Accessibility: this event will be outdoors on a mostly flat surface. If you need an accommodation, reach out directly. Guidance is available in English and Spanish.

Space is limited to 30 people.

$25 dollar donation for materials suggested, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
