Water Stories: Youth Film Showcase
This World Oceans Day, reconnect with our precious blue planet through the power of film.
Presented by Here On Earth and NYU Wallerstein Collaborative, and hosted by Hudson River Community Sailing, Water Stories celebrates youth voices that grapple with water, its human connections, and pressing environmental and climate issues.
Join us for a waterfront evening at the Pier 66 Boathouse, along the Hudson River 🌅
Starting at 7pm, enjoy pre-screening experiences throughout the boathouse, including NYC Voices ‘field stations’ and a participatory “Ocean Pledge,” before the main screening begins at 8pm.
🔬 NYC Voices is an intimate micro-cinema installation, featuring short films by young NYC filmmakers woven into the hand-built boats, maps, sails, and waterfront materials in the space. Inspired by field observation stations and the atmosphere of the boathouse itself, each station is a portal into a young filmmaker’s perspective on water and the city.
🌎 Presented in collaboration with The Wick Poetry Center and The Ocean Project, “Ocean Pledge” is a participatory poetry activity in celebration of World Ocean Day. What is one small or large action you can imagine taking to protect water, coastlines, rivers, or marine life?
Make sure to catch the ‘field station’ films (and of course, the main screening) to vote for Audience Choice Award at the end 🗳️
There will be a post-screening Q&A with filmmakers before the awards ceremony.
Light refreshments will be provided.
