DMV Refuturing and Networking Circle
Come for an afternoon of building connections, possibilities and unlocking creative potential for the future of our climate and beyond.
The climate crisis is intersecting with multiple other crises that appear to be unraveling our world, with an employment crisis as one of the more recent additions. In the cascading fall out, it can be difficult to imagine the future.
Former or current federal employees, many of whom worked in climate or resilience related projects, are feeling this de-futuring phenomenon acutely, with multiple layoffs in 2025 and more threatened on the way. Feds are not alone. Many others have been laid off from the nonprofit and private sectors this year because of sudden budget shortfalls.
We don’t have to settle for that. Let’s reclaim our imagination and our future. Because our creativity is not subject to budget cuts.
The purpose of this circle is to come together for 1 hour to find connections, rejuvenation, and sparking ideas by sharing stories about what we want for our future. Because the climate crisis intersects with social, equity, economic, and health crises, we need solutions that deliver co-benefits across domains. Therefore, this is open to professionals in sustainability, health care, mental health, hospitality, climate resilience, marketing, law, activism, politics, community development, business and others. In this fertile interdisciplinary imaginative and relational space, project ideas may arise, partnerships can form, or connections may lead to new jobs. This is not just networking; it’s repowering our sense of possibility.
The inspiration for this event came from the recent work of Rob Hopkins and his discussion of his new book, How to Fall in Love with the Future: A Time Traveller’s Guide to Changing the World.
Come join us at the Arlington Central Library on Saturday February 7, 2026 from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. We may get lunch afterwards at Tortas Y Tacos around the corner if there’s interest.
