About Event

What the f*** is a Gong Show?

GONG SHOW EXPLAINED HERE.

Presenters get 3 minutes to explain their work in science, tech, engineering, or another “it’s hard to explain” field. If the audience hears a word they don’t understand, they ring a bell (*gong*). Presenters must pause, clarify, and keep going.

RSVP required. Includes drinks, food, gongs, and COY swag. Limited space available. Learn more about COY Community HERE.

Speaker Lineup Sneak Peek!

  • Drug Discovery 101

  • “This is not legal advice…” but your Hinge messages might end up in court

  • Nailed It: The Science Behind Nail Polish

  • What is biological aging?

  • AI inference and computer vision models! **Where's my gong???**

Why Come?

For Presenters:

  • Practice explaining your work clearly.

  • Get instant feedback from a friendly audience.

  • What else are you doing on a Friday night?

For Audience:

  • Interrupt your smart friends without judgement.

  • You might learn something new. You might not.

  • Someone may talk about AI. Riveting stuff.

Event Rules:

  1. Presentations are 3 minutes max. Pretend the audience has a small attention span (because they do).

  2. Bell = “I don’t get it." Presenters must clarify before moving on.

  3. Safe space! Don’t just nod politely and stay confused. Ring your bell!

  4. We’re committed to maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone. Harassment, discrimination, or disrespectful behavior of any kind will not be tolerated.

FYI:

Doors open at 6:15 PM, the show runs from 7:00–8:30ish PM, doors close at 9:30, and then you have to GTFO.

Limited street parking is available and the nearest garage is at 1000 Van Ness. We recommend rideshares, carpooling, or taking the bus. For public transit options, check the SFMTA Routes & Stops page.
