Mosaic Strings
Please join us for a concert celebrating the spirit of spring! This program is full of gratitude for the things that life gives us - the fresh air of a new season, the bloom of hope that accompanies a beautiful day, the love shared with others, and the love given in return. A mixture of youthful energy and more seasoned tenderness, the music offers something for every listener.
The program starts with a burst of energy with Caroline Shaw’s piece Bloom. Originally written for both instruments and dancers, it invites movement, and asks us to share in the joy of when things in our life begin to flower. Next is Haydn’s string quartet Op. 54 No. 5 in D Major, nicknamed “The Lark”, which has the cheerful spirit of a young bird singing the tune of spring.
The second half of the program turns more nostalgic with Borodin’s String Quartet No. 2, the last major work of the composer, and written affectionately for his wife. The program finishes with a sweet tribute to mothers in Dvorak’s Songs My Mother Taught Me.
Mosaic musicians Jessica Folson, Elmer Carter, and Jennifer Redondas are joined by guest violinist Andres Caveda.
There will be a 10 minute intermission. Please stick around afterwards for refreshments and conversation!
