An Evening with Yube Huni Kuin

​Join us for an evening of music, prayer, and celebration in the heart of Topanga.

​Mothers of the Amazon invites you to an intimate gathering with Yube Huni Kuin, Vice President of the Huni Kuin Federation, carrier of the ancestral knowledge of his people, and co-director of Mothers of the Amazon. Traveling from the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, Yube Huni Kuin will share Huni Kuin stories, prayers, songs, and the spirit of the rainforest.

• Live traditional music
• Short documentary film retracing the history of the Huni Kuin People by Yube Huni Kuin
• Q&A and open discussion
• Indigenous artisan market featuring Huni Kuin art, jewelry, ceremonial adornments, and traditional weavings.

​Who do we supporting with this fundraiser:

​Deep in the Amazon rainforest, in the state of Acre, Brazil, the Huni Kuin People of Kaxinawá do Rio Humaitá, in the São Vicente village, protect some of the most biodiverse regions in the world, home to some of the last Uncontacted communities living in voluntary isolation.

​Last year, cartel violence tore through their village and burned down their Shubuã (Maloca), where ceremonies are held. Where prayers rise. Where women weave, where community decisions are made. The Shubuǎ is the living heart of every Huni Kuin village in the Amazon.

​100 percent of ticket purchases and art and jewelry sold will go toward covering the reconstruction cost of their Shubuǎ supporting the Huni Kuin community of São Vicente in their ability to protect their culture and therefore the rainforest.
