Transition Away from Fossil Fuels in Asia and the Pacific

​In the first Global Stocktake, Parties to the Paris Agreement agreed on “transitioning away from fossil fuels (TAFF) in energy systems, in a just, orderly and equitable manner”. The growing momentum around TAFF means that the focus needs to move from aspiration to implementation, including through national and international roadmaps. While agreement on the need for a TAFF is growing, two questions remain. One is how to translate this commitment at the national level, through the design and preparation of a TAFF roadmap. The second is how to deliver it on the ground.

​This session will explore the progress that has been made towards setting just and orderly roadmaps to phase out fossil fuels in countries in Asia and the Pacific, what they imply and, beyond the national scale, how regional integration through trade and diplomacy can contribute to that goal.
