Step away from the everyday and treat yourself to a curated day in one of the DMV's most charming destinations — Old Town Alexandria, led by our community member Fay.

Sunny Day Itinerary:

1. Meet at King Street Gardens Park (near the King St metro) @12pm (we will leave @12:15pm sharp)

a. Introductions

b. Physical orienting information (e.g,. landmarks, free buses, basic info about Alexandria)

c. Explanation of the route and sites with focus on women's history

2. Edmonson Sisters Sculpture & Historical Marker - spotlight on women in abolition: Edmonson sisters 

3. Penny Post - cute little stationary shop

4. Misha’s Coffee House - a coffee shop on King Street that could accommodate a larger group if we want to pause and grab tea/coffee/snacks before heading back out on the tour

5. Site of the Old Custom's House (~201 St. Asaph St) - spotlight on the 19th Amendment and women who were arrested for protesting

6. Gadsby’s Tavern Museum - stand outside

a. Spotlight on early female business owners: Mary Hawkins, Hannah Colvill Griffith

7. Friends to Lovers Bookstore

8. 231 N Union Street –  Spotlight on slavery in urban cities: Jane Martin 

9. Torpedo Factory

a.  Final stop - highlight on women in arts and community then free time. People can decide on their own if they either prefer to walk around the waterfront or inside the Torpedo Factory artist studios (there's also a free museum on the third floor)
