AI, Climate, and the Future of Work

​The AI companies building hyperscale data centers are the same ones telling workers their jobs are about to disappear. The environmental story and the labor story of AI are the same: a handful of Silicon Valley billionaires seeking to concentrate wealth and power in their own hands.

​Join us during Climate Week for a conversation between two people who've spent the last few years inside these fights:

​Phil Aroneanu is Executive Director of Irreplaceable, a new advocacy organization fighting for AI regulations. A co-founder of 350.org, he spent two decades leading climate and democracy campaigns, including roles at the ACLU and Climate United.

​Garrison Lovely is a Brooklyn-based journalist and author of the forthcoming book Obsolete. He was named by the Pulitzer Center in 2025 as an AI journalist worth following, and has written on AI, power, and labor for The New York Times, The Nation, Jacobin, Nature, TIME, and elsewhere. Obsolete takes on the question of whether AI is a bubble or humanity's last invention, an existing harm or an existential threat, and refuses the false binaries in between.

​We'll cover what the AI buildout is actually costing communities and workers, what a serious policy response looks like on a 2029 horizon, and where the climate and labor movements can win together. Then we'll drink.
