Ebru — An Intuitive Marbling Session

In this 2h Ebru (marbling) workshop, we explore colour, water, and movement through a tactile and intuitive making process. Pigments float on the water’s surface before being transferred onto paper, creating organic patterns that cannot be fully controlled or replicated. Rather than working towards a single perfect outcome, this session encourages continuous experimentation and immersion in the flow of colour. The process is slow, meditative, and open-ended, where unexpected results and “happy accidents” are an essential part of the workshop. No experience is needed.

What We’ll Do (2h)
We begin with a short introduction to the marbling technique and materials, followed by guided, intuitive experimentation on the water surface.
Participants will create a large series of marbled prints through repetition, observation, and spontaneous colour exploration. Instead of focusing on one final piece, you will work in cycles: experimenting, adjusting, and responding to how pigments move and interact.
You will:
Work hands-on with floating pigments and organic movement
Explore colour combinations intuitively
Create multiple unique marbled prints
Embrace unpredictability and happy accidents as part of the process
Each print is one-of-a-kind, shaped by movement, timing, and chance.
The Experience
This workshop is centred on intuitive making and process over perfection.
As colours expand and shift across the water, you are invited to respond instinctively rather than plan a fixed design. Many participants find themselves getting absorbed in the rhythm of colour, flow, and repetition.
The atmosphere is calm, tactile, and thoughtfully guided. Offering a space to slow down, experiment, and reconnect with hands-on creativity in a studio setting.

As participants will produce multiple marbled prints, the artworks require sufficient drying time after the session. For quality and preservation, the final pieces will need to be picked up at a later moment (pickup details will be shared during the workshop).
