About Event

If we upended our assumptions about trees and forests, how would we understand consciousness and climate change better?

Join NorCal Public Media as we explore stories and upend assumptions, following leaders restoring nature, reducing carbon, and reconnecting communities, in a special screening of the new PBS series, CLIMATE CALIFORNIA.

We'll be screening episode 3, where we...

-Climb one of the world's tallest trees

-Explore ecology with an app

-Rethink plants with an expert on plant intelligence

-Learn about the value of intact forest landscapes

Climate change demands bold ideas - come be part of the conversation.

Panelists:

-Brian Griffith from KRCB will host the event! On top of great music to elevate the mood of your weekday mornings, Brian has artist interviews and live in-studio performances as well as hourly NPR news. Brian's musical career started many years ago not far from his current home in Petaluma. His easy repartee with artists shines through during KRCB's Morning Show each weekday. Recent visits include Steve Earle, Kenny Loggins, newcomer Jade Jackson, and local favorite David Luning.

-Kerry Wininger serves as the Center for Environmental Inquiry's Director at Sonoma State University, after spending several years as CEI Educational Outreach & Program Development Lead. As Outreach Lead, she created events where experts in everything from poetry, mushrooms, health, fire, and technology, to sustainability, ecosystem resilience, wildlife-human interactions, and more guide the SSU community and public in skill-building experiences that make a difference and reinforce our connection with nature.

-Anna Loi (writer/forest expert) - has a deep understanding of environmental issues at the levels of both practice and theory. She has a background in forestry with a BSc from Germany and a Masters in Forestry from Yale, followed by several years of working in Asia-Pacific on forest restoration issues, and is a PhD candidate at the MINT Lab at the University of Murcia, Spain. She's contributed to reports on climate impacts on forests, including for the FAO.

-Charles Loi (host/director) - is a storyteller whose goal is to harness stories to solve complex problems. As host of Climate California, he’s grateful for the opportunity to learn from leading lights in the climate movement and spread their passionate stories to a wider audience. In the past, he’s worked on wildlife, action, animation, music, and civil society projects with some of the world's top talents and organizations (Disney, USAID, Base FX, director Lu Chuan, and many others). He studied political science at Yale University.
