Pixels & People & Impact Hub present ~ AI, Privacy & Safety: a workshop & fireside conversation

AI tools are now part of how we work, write and create. But where does our data go, and who's keeping these systems in check?

Join us for an intimate evening at Impact Hub Penha. We'll start with a hands-on privacy workshop, then open a fireside conversation with people working on AI risk, governance, and human-AI relationships. Focusing on topics such as: what's actually happening with your data, what the EU AI Act does (and doesn't) cover, and why researchers think this technology is different from anything we've built before. No technical background needed.

What to expect

  • A hands-on workshop on how to protect your data in the age of AI with Emma G. Möller

  • A fireside chat, from your data and privacy to the bigger picture: loss of control, misuse, and power concentration

  • Your questions on stage: Part of the conversation is built from what you send us when you register.

  • Relaxed networking to close the evening.

Our speakers

  • Emma Grönvik Möller - The Privacy Voice. Workshop lead and founder of Lumiera. A lawyer turned AI strategist specialized in digital privacy, who writes about surveillance and trust in technology.

  • Ananya Rao-Middleton - The Relational Voice. Founder of the Institute of Relational AI and co-founder of a health tech company. A Cambridge-trained anthropologist who looks at AI safety through human-AI relationships.

  • Caleb Price - The Global View · Founder of Lisbon AI Safety Hub. Came to AI safety from outside tech after taking a hard look at the evidence. Canadian, living in Lisbon for the past year.

  • Orlando Torres - The Non-profit Voice · Lisbon AI Safety Hub. Non-profit founder with years of experience in effective altruism organizations, bringing a Global South perspective.

  • Frederico Luz - The Local Voice · Lisbon AI Safety Hub. Born and raised in Portugal, studied AI at university and knows the research inside out.

  • Hana Ahriz - The Host & Moderator · Founder of Pixels & People. Worked in tech for the last decade as an entrepreneur and event leader.

Limited spots. Registration is by application: answer the short questions, and we'll confirm your spot by email.

One important note from us: this isn't about being afraid of AI or giving it up. It's about understanding what's at stake, making informed choices, and knowing how to have a say. Excited to have many perspectives in the room!

To keep in mind:

  • Be on time, as talks start shortly after doors open

  • When you arrive, we will be checking you in at the entrance

  • Come with a question: the best ones go to the panel

  • Make sure to go to Impact Hub Penha (not the Baixa one)

We will capture photos and videos for documentation and promotional purposes. If you prefer not to be photographed or filmed, let us know.
