Pre-launch of Asia in Focus documentary 'The Price of Convenience: Plastic Pollution and the Business and Human Rights Agenda'
Across Asia, transformational economic growth has reshaped daily life. From groceries and cosmetics to cleaning supplies, these products fill the daily routines of Asia’s growing middle class. However, this convenience comes at a significant cost – not only to the environment and health, but also to the rights of people.
This pre-launch screening of the upcoming Asia in Focus episode will offer audiences an early look at The Cost of Convenience, which explores the business and human rights implications of the region’s plastic pollution crisis. The episode examines how companies’ dependence on single-use plastics is contributing to environmental harm, disproportionately affecting frontline communities, and undermining the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
Through the voices of experts, policymakers, industry players, youth advocates, and frontline communities, the film unpacks the human impact of unsustainable business models. It also highlights how young people are driving change – pushing for corporate accountability, advocating for stronger regulatory frameworks, and reshaping cultural norms and attitudes on sustainable consumption and production.
The pre-launch screening will be followed by an interactive Fireside chat with experts on the nexus between the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment and health, viewed through the lens of the Business & Human Rights Agenda.
