Locust Late @ The DiLL: Workshop by Dani Amaro. Performance by Lesley Mok (NY).
Locust Late @ The DiLL, Locust Projects’ signature after-hours art and tech series, is back with a new season of free workshops, performances, and talks by artists, for artists in South Florida.
We’re kicking off our newest NEA-supported season with a special program presented with Brainville Arts, featuring a hands-on improvisation workshop by Miami-based transdisciplinary sound artist Dani Amaro, followed by the Miami debut of New York-based experimental percussionist Lesley Mok. Artists and attendees of all skill levels are strongly encouraged to #BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) and follow along.
Stop by and be among the first to see Locust Projects’ newest, most technologically ambitious exhibition to date, Tides and Passages, Chapter I: MARE MAGNVM by Edison Peñafiel, on view in the Main Gallery.
7pm Workshop | Dani Ferreira Amaro
Arrive early for a workshop on how technology supports improvisation by Miami-based transdisciplinary sound artist Dani Ferreira Amaro. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops and follow along, with artists and attendees of all skill levels welcome.
Drawing on nearly a decade of music composition and live performance experience, alongside six years as a teaching artist, Amaro approaches improvisation as a vehicle for learning and communication. Their practice fuses contemporary jazz technique and Brazilian-Cuban heritage with storytelling and folklore, often weaving between repertoire in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Amaro is an alum of the National YoungArts program in Jazz Voice (2016).
9pm Performance | Lesley Mok
Linger late for the Miami debut of boundary-pushing New York City-based percussionist, composer, and sound artist Lesley Mok, whose solo LP, transient, released in July 2026 on American Dreams Records, expands their practice into beat-making, electronic composition, and the transformation of acoustic sound. The album has received acclaim from PopMatters and Foxy Digitalis, with JazzTimes describing it as music that “asks the listener to participate in shaping meaning through sustained attention rather than genre-based categorization.” Their work is guided by a continual search for the connection between the mundane and the divine, the experience and manipulation of time, and a desire to capture emotional dissonance and complexity.
On View | Edison Peñafiel: Tides and Passages | Chapter I: MARE MAGNVM
Join artist Edison Peñafiel and Art + Digital Innovation Manager Andrew McLees for a tour of Tides and Passages | Chapter I: MARE MAGNVM. Presented as a 360-degree surround-sound video, the work depicts a stylized, monochromatic sea populated by fourteen boats carrying eighty-one figures, each wearing papier-mâché masks typical of Peñafiel's native Ecuador while caught in a perpetual migration loop.
Locust Late @ The DiLL is free and open to the public, and is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. Complimentary pizza is available for workshop participants; and refreshments are available for guests aged 21 and older.
