Philosophy at the Museum: Daoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and East Asian Art
A quiet stroll across a narrow bridge;
majestic peaks rising in layered mist;
pines and cypresses drifting among clouds;
calligraphy that soars like a dragon in flight,
then lands like a dragonfly skimming water.
Yet within all this freedom,
there is a distinctly East Asian sensibility of restraint —
an inner world of endurance, subtlety, and self-mastery.
After sauntering through the art of the West for so long,
this time we journey to the other side of the world,
diving into East Asian philosophy through masterpieces from China and Japan.
The event will include facilitator introductions, guided questions, and rotating small-group activities across three sections of the exhibition. All participants must follow museum norms and respect gallery etiquette.
