Latvian Science Social

​The holiday season has a funny side effect: for a brief moment, a bunch of Latvian scientists abroad are all back at the same time. Let’s make the most of it. Join us for a relaxed lunch social that brings together Latvian expat researchers home for Christmas and the local scientific community. The goal is to reconnect, trade stories about the paths we’ve taken (and the ones we didn’t), and keep building a stronger Latvia-based innovation ecosystem – one conversation and one plate of food at a time.

​This gathering is open to all (aspiring) PhD students, postdocs, PIs, and scientists working in startups or industry, whether your lab badge is local or international. If you’re curious about what others are working on, thinking of collaborating, or just want to meet fellow Latvian scientists while everyone’s in town, swing by for a chat!

Haralds and Anna

​Meet your hosts:

​Haralds Āboliņš. Never thought he would become a scientist, never truly became one, but gave it a shot and now supports scientist-entrepreneurs in crossing the bridge into the startup world for the first time with Positron Ventures. Before landing in venture capital, Haralds pursued a PhD in Physics at the University of Cambridge, had a short stint as a founder, and helped establish the Latvian Chip Competence Center.

​Anna Vildaus. Once an operator, always an operator. Previously at TechChill and later COO of the Riga-based medtech startup Vigo Health, Anna is now Operations Lead at Wilbe — a London-based VC firm backing scientist founders globally. She helps scientists launch and scale companies in some of the most tech-savvy industries, including biotech, energy, materials, and more.
