​What happens when AI becomes a permanent member of the household?

​When Robots Move In explores how voice assistants like Alexa and Google quietly transform domestic life, reshaping our relationships, routines, and the spaces we live in. Drawing on years of immersive research and Dr McKie's doctoral work, the book uncovers the everyday negotiations and adaptations that emerge as families let AI into their homes, and looks ahead to the next chapter: mobile humanoid robots designed to live alongside us.

​Come along for an evening of ideas and celebration. The event will include:

​About the author:

​Dr Indra McKie is a researcher, founder, and musician working at the intersection of technology, people, and everyday life. She is a postdoctoral research fellow at the UTS/UNSW Trustworthy Digital Society Initiative, where she researches trust in AI, co-design with older adults, and smart home technologies, and holds a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction from UTS.

​Beyond academia, Indra is a founder and community builder who has launched ventures spanning AI literacy education, dating and female community events. She is also a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter who performs as Indra, bringing the same curiosity about human connection to the stage as she does to her research.

​When Robots Move In is her debut book, drawing together years of research from her PhD on what happens when AI becomes part of the family.
