Unlocking the Solar Siting Bottleneck: Land, Policy, and People for NDC 2035
With growing needs for accelerated energy transition globally, solar energy remains a key cornerstone to addressing decarbonization efforts. Yet the pace and scale of solar deployment hinge on one critical dimension: space. As countries update their 2035 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and define strategies to realize their climate targets, developing a coordinated approach to integrate land-use, infrastructural availability, and the people is critical.
This side event explores key elements to holistic solar siting, including governance, regulatory clarity, and community engagement. In particular, this event focuses on Asia—home to rapid growth in energy consumption—and Latin America—a region rich in renewable energy potential. Through the session, attendees will gain insight into how state actors and non-state actors can collaboratively design practical pathways that will enable the scaling up and acceleration of solar energy.
