About Event

CSID-Net, RICH, and SILT invite researchers at the intersection of the environment and data to a happy hour gathering parallel to Global Data Fest in Nairobi. Over drinks and light bites, participants will be called into reflections on existing infrastructure for independent researchers in this sector and the shared needs and resources for East African and international teams. How to describe the evolving state of data governance in this sector? How is the stewardship of data evolving apace with the changes to private and public funding? Where are standards around community accountability being articulated and held? The gathering will be informal and social, prioritizing connections participants can make with each other.

Ticket price includes 1 drink and bitings.

More about Us

Climate Sensitive Infectious Disease Network (CSID-Net) Climate change, an indisputable and stark reality of our time, impacts human health. The term “Climate Sensitive Infectious Disease” (CSID) is used to describe infectious diseases whose transmission and spread are directly influenced by changes and variations in climate and weather.

The CSID Network enables members to collaborate on the co-design, development, and maintenance of Climate Sensitive Infectious Disease (CSID) tools that are relevant, accessible, and impactful.

Research and Innovation for Climate Hub (RICH) is an Africa-wide initiative led by the Local Development Research Institute (LDRI) and dedicated to scaling responsible AI solutions for climate action across Africa. The Hub bridges the gap between climate science and real-world deployment by integrating interdisciplinary research, innovation incubation and scaling support, climate data access, community building, and policy advocacy. Working with a carefully selected cohort of African climate AI innovations, the Hub provides catalytic resources and technical assistance to accelerate promising solutions from prototype to meaningful scale, while ensuring that AI deployments are responsible, contextually relevant, and deliver net-positive environmental and community impact.

Sustainable Infrastructure for Local Talent (SILT) provides services and infrastructure designed to support the sustainability of an independent research sector. Our core offering is a unique operational and programatic coupling. SILT’s bespoke fiscal infrastructure ensures researchers can work smoothly and confidently. At the same time, SILT’s coaching, workshops, and trainings help researchers build robust social infrastructure to keep data in the hands of affected communities. We support researchers to build data sovereignty, protocols for community accountability, and the governance they need to sustain their work.
