About the Speaker

Sid Dobrin is Professor in the Department of English at the University of Florida and one of the world’s leading academic voices on generative AI and its impact on research and education. He is the Founding Director of the Trace Innovation Initiative at UF and has been recognized as a Digital Thought Leader by Adobe.

Dobrin is an MIT-certified AI strategist and actively contributes to national conversations on AI policy and governance. He has served with the Florida Institute for National Security, the Florida AI Learning Consortium (FALCON) Steering Committee, and the University of Florida’s AI Initiative and AI Blue Sky Task Force.

He is the author and editor of numerous books and scholarly works, including Talking about Generative AI: A Guide for Educators 2.0 and AI and Writing. In April 2025, he testified before the U.S. House Committee on Education and Workforce Development, and in December 2025, he addressed the Mississippi State Legislature’s AI Task Force on the implications of AI in education and research. His upcoming book, The Not So Perfect Machine: What Every Consumer Needs to Know about AI, examines critical questions surrounding AI technologies.

Beyond AI research, Dobrin is also a leading scholar in Digital Humanities and Environmental Humanities, particularly Blue Humanities and Blue Ecocriticism, and is currently editing The Routledge Blue Humanities Handbook. He is also CEO and Principal of FlyingFish-AI, an AI strategy consultancy.
