The Kurākāni Kollective #8 Digital by Design: Building a People-Centered Digital Future with Public–Private Partnership
Manisha Aryal is a digital development practitioner based in Washington, D.C. She has worked on civic tech and e‑government programs across a range of countries, including Iraq, Kosovo, Moldova, and Ukraine. She spent much of 2025 in India, studying digital public infrastructure, last‑mile connectivity, and the critical role of rural digital entrepreneurs.
Manisha argues that if digital is to bring prosperity to populations at scale, the public sector must act as the architect of a citizen‑centered enabling environment. with the private sector driving innovation and growth, and people's representatives - think tanks, CSOs, universities, and individuals - championing inclusion. She makes the case for separate but complementary roles, held together by intentional design rather than market default.

What is the The Kurākāni Kollective?
The Kurākāni Kollective is a monthly after-work conversation series co-hosted by Impact447 and Governance Lab. Designed for people in Nepal, we move to public spaces like bars and cafés to create a safe space to challenge status quos and explore complex topics like power dynamics, localizing leadership, project failures, and decolonizing aid.
