​Shanghai: An American Story is more than just an album, it’s a story told through music about identity, family, and where we come from.

​Have you ever been asked, “Where are you really from?” This project explores that question in a thoughtful and creative way. It looks at what it means to be (fill in the blank)-American, and why that hyphen matters. Is anyone truly “just American”? And what is lost when we de-hyphenate and dissociate ourselves from motherlands and lineal histories? And what might we learn about America and ourselves from the perspective of our mother cities?
