Newcomers Edition: Climate & Communities Dialogue
Bring, Reuse, Belong
Newcomers Edition: How Local Communities Drive Climate Action
Join us for an evening of coffee, conversation, and community.
For many people in this room, Vancouver is still new. You're still learning where things are, how things work, and what this city cares about. This PNW Climate Week, we're hosting a conversation that shows you one thing Vancouver cares about deeply: turning everyday habits, culture, and community into climate action, often without calling it that at all.
We'll gather at NOMAD Coffee Bar in Kitsilano for a panel conversation followed by a coffee chat. Expect stories from Vancouver's circular economy movement, its café culture, and the people who help newcomers build their lives here, including support for entrepreneurship and employment in the climate space. This isn't about climate policy. It's about culture, habit, and belonging, and how those things quietly shape climate action in this city.
No climate expertise needed, just curiosity and an open mind.
Speakers:
Katrina Shum, Chief Strategy & Impact Officer at ChopValue
Annette Kim, Founder of Nomad Espresso Bar
Aish Mann, Founder & Executive Director of Tanah Air Project
What to expect:
A moderated panel with speakers from Vancouver's circular economy, “No Single Cup” coffee shop, and newcomer communities
Real stories on the barriers newcomers face, and what's working
A relaxed coffee chat afterwards, with coffee(decaf option available), and light snacks on hand, to meet the panellists and make connections
