​Join Women’s Spirituality Studies Press for a special virtual gathering with New York Times bestselling author and award-winning poet Mary Mackey as we celebrate the release of her newest collection, The Goddess of Burning Hair.

​Spanning more than fifty years of Mary’s writing, The Goddess of Burning Hair brings together her complete collection of goddess poems for the first time. At the heart of these poems is an urgent reckoning with our relationship to the Earth: the beauty of the living world, the devastation human beings have inflicted upon it, and the consequences of imagining ourselves as separate from the natural world that sustains us.

​Throughout the collection, Goddess and Earth are deeply intertwined. Mary’s poems confront climate change, ecological destruction, and the vulnerability of human existence while reminding us of something both humbling and profound: humanity depends upon the Earth, but the Earth does not depend upon humanity. The Goddess endures.

​During this free virtual event, Mary will read selected poems from The Goddess of Burning Hair and reflect on the experiences, ideas, and ecological concerns that have shaped her poetry across more than five decades.

​Following the reading, we’ll open the conversation to participants for questions and discussion about poetry, Goddess, climate change, our relationship with the Earth, and what it means to write in a time of ecological crisis.
