BASED Meetup is where professionals & enthusiasts discuss the latest trends, breakthroughs, and challenges in modern search.
We dive into topics like:
- Agentic Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Memory & Search;
- Innovative approaches to retrieval;
- Modern metrics for search quality;
- Optimization techniques for production-scale systems;
- Cross-lingual and multimodal search challenges;
… and much more.
No sales pitches, no gatekeeping, just an open space to share ideas, learn from each other, and explore the technologies shaping the future of search!:)
What's different this time
No talks this edition:) BASED #6 is an open space for sharing knowledge: the topics come from you, and instead of a single stage, we'll have several rooms for parallel group discussions.
Any question, pain point, field story, or a strong opinion about information retrieval (search) works! And if you'd rather listen, that's alrighty!

How #BASED space works
The format is inspired by 2 formats: BarCamp and Open Space:
Bring a topic (optional). Anything fitting the #BASED manifesto and about search: a question you want answers for, something you built & want to compare notes on, something that broke in prod and you want to rant... Think of one now or come up with one on the spot, nw!
Tell us all about it in ~30 seconds. At 18:30, we'll collect topics: you write yours on a card & briefly tell what it's about and what you want from the discussion (get answers, share experience, or start an argument). Don't want to pitch? Np, we'll try to pitch for you!:)
We build the schedule. We'll try our best to sort all topics into a grid: 2 discussion rounds, a few rooms in parallel. Similar topics will be merged, and whatever doesn't fit is left for the networking.
You pick your room. Each discussion is ~20 minutes in a (small) group. You proposed a topic for the room? Throw it in, and then let's see what happens from there.
Rooms share takeaways. After each round, we regather, and each room gets 2 minutes to tell the others what they discussed (so no fomo / no "and where do I buy a time turner?")
No slides, no sales pitches, no gatekeeping 🤟.

Directions to the Venue
It is the lower building located right next to the BayWa high-rise. Please note that the entrance is not on the street side, but on the opposite side of the building.
How to get there:
From Arabellastraße: This is the easiest route (e.g., via the U4 Arabellapark station).
From Effnerplatz: You can also reach us by taking one of the small footpaths (please refer to the map).
