About Global Sustainability Challenge
The Global Sustainability Challenge (GSC) is an ambitious initiative led by the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, in collaboration with leading universities worldwide, including Technical University of Munich, IIT Bombay, The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Zhejiang University, Imperial College London, and others.
Our mission is to create a global platform that empowers university students to develop real-world sustainability solutions for their communities.
The inaugural challenge launched in September 2025 around two themes:
Sustainable Energy, and
Adaptation & Resilience
These themes offered students hands-on learning, mentorship from experts, and the opportunity to work within an international, multidisciplinary community.
More than 3,000 students from 91 countries formed 845 teams, many spanning multiple institutions and continents. From these, approximately 200 top teams advanced to regional semi-finals across four hubs: China, India, Germany, and the United States.
For the South Asia region, IIT Bombay is hosting the final stage, where leading teams will compete for a place at the Global Finale in April 2026.
Livestream schedule:
Morning: Inaugural Ceremony — 9:30 AM IST
Afternoon: Awards & Closing Ceremony — 1:00 PM IST
We look forward to welcoming students, faculty, partners, and sustainability enthusiasts from across the world to celebrate innovation, collaboration, and impact.
