OPENING 29 JANUARY 2026 from 6 pm
Hometown Journal presents Berlin-born and based artist Benni Kakert (1994). Showcasing his current Body of work under the name of Eros & Thanatos. In his distinctive artistic approach, Kakert uses acrylic paint in strong colours when working on canvas. His spontaneous gestures that link back to his history as a sprayer, however, span across various mediums, from ready-made objects, wood, wool, fabric, up to stuffed animals.
His large-scale works encapsulate various elements of German postmodernism. Through satirical comments and prominent semiotics, Kakert comments on the trans-generational history of Germany. His almost art therapeutic approach reveals addendums from his personal life, like his alter-ego Dennis, his dog Freddie and other individuals who Benni has close relationships with. By means of painting Benni deals with his inner struggles, whilst simultaneously opening a platform for the viewer to relate and process collective memories or individual associations
