Mabuhay Gardens for Creativity Regeneration and Joy- Pre-Climate Week Activation
Mabuhay Gardens for Creativity Regeneration and Joy- Pre-Climate Week Activation
3-5pm April 17th, Friday.
We will have a sound healer, Mary Kelly, for part of our activation time together. Mary Kelly will offer a sound bath during this activation. Mary Kelly is an artist affiliated with https://www.designscience.studio/. We are grateful for this resonance layer. This sound experience creates a multi-dimensional soul activation centered on the 4 horizontal directionals and the 3 vertical directionals. This sound experience balances and centers our collective field, so as to create a newly unified dimension founded in unconditional love. Mary serves as a Wisdom Keeper of dimensions. She is currently apprenticing in Curanderismo in Humboldt County, and will be studying abroad in Oaxaca as part of University of New Mexico’s continuing education program in June.
Dr. Howie Whitehouse will share about his research on rights of passage and human science.
Bobby Fishkin and Dr. Howie Whitehouse will invite radical collaboration exploration on the future of Mabuhay Gardens.
We will explore how Mabuhay Gardens could be a center for regeneration. There are many ways Mabuhay Gardens could be leveraged in the future to convene the environmental community, community. We can imagine radical collaboration on biodiversity, ecosystem services, and innumerable global and bioregional challenges. We think that regenerating our mental health and cultural vibrancy in San Francisco can have cascade effects given the roles San Frnancisco humans play in shaping global environmental issues.
A constellation of artists, systems changers, creative designers and dreamers is reawakening Mabuhay Gardens—that legendary San Francisco space at 443 Broadway/ 435 Broadway where underground culture once sparked into being. Originally forged as a social hall more than a century ago, it evolved through eras of cultural transformation—from community gatherings to the explosive creativity of punk, when it became known as The Fab Mab. The stage once held the raw energy of icons and the irreverent brilliance of comedians who shaped a generation’s voice.
The building has hosted performances by legends- Louis Armstrong, Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Dead Kennedys, Iggy Pop,The Sex Pistols, The Ramones,The Specials, Metalica, Guns N’ Roses, Herbie Hancock, REM, Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Soundgarden, Bad Religion, Dave Chappelle and many others.
Now, it’s evolving again—into a living laboratory for joy, regeneration, and creative alchemy.
We’re gathering for the first activation of 2026: a curated convergence of aligned hearts and co-conspirators. This isn’t an exclusive event; it’s an intentional circle for those who feel the pulse of possibility—who believe that art and community can regenerate life itself. We invite you to co-create a future rooted in right relationship, wild imagination, and shared wonder.
We are cultivating something well beyond a venue—an all-day, all-night creative ecosystem. Imagine a 20-hour-a-day cultural studio, alive from 6 AM to 2 AM, where wellness, coworking, education, and live performance flow together as one regenerative rhythm. This is a living lab for prototyping futures that are brighter, braver, and more interconnected.
Our lineage draws inspiration from global examples of cultural renewal: places that reclaimed industrial and historical spaces to seed new civic imagination. Like those transformations, this vision is an experiment in how art, architecture, and community can become regenerative technologies for urban life.
The Activation: A Convergence of Rebel Artists
This first gathering blurs the line between audience and participant, sparking collaborative encounters and moments of collective effervescence.
* Participatory Worlds: Immersive art forms, interactive environments, and sensorial experiences that treat creativity as an ecosystem—not a spectacle.
* Rebel Ethos: A transdisciplinary, heart-centered exploration of art as civic soulcraft. Expect the unexpected as makers, thinkers, and performers dissolve boundaries between mediums and meanings.
* Art as Ritual: Movement, sound, and visual ceremony will invite presence and transformation—recognizing art’s role in healing, connecting, and awakening consciousness.
The Invitation: Are You Part of This Circle?
If you create from love, if you hold beauty as a civic responsibility, if you sense that joy itself can restore the world—you’re already part of this unfolding. This call is for:
* The systems changers and cultural shapeshifters.
* The artists, educators, and community builders re-imagining how we gather.
* The experimenters who treat imagination as infrastructure and awe as a renewable resource.
Come help us open the next layer of the Mabuhay Gardens.
