Background
Corporations play a decisive role in achieving global climate goals, yet accountability mechanisms remain weak compared to those applied to governments. While national commitments are increasingly tested through courts and international law, corporate climate pledges often lack binding force or transparency. This session will explore how legal frameworks, policy instruments, and cross-sector collaboration can translate voluntary commitments into measurable, enforceable, and just corporate climate action.
Event Goals
Understanding of where we stand: Review current policies, legal tools, and corporate actions related to climate accountability – what’s working and what’s missing.
Learn from real examples: Share lessons from ongoing initiatives, including how companies are addressing (or failing to address) their climate responsibilities.
Discussions on what comes next: Identify practical ways for governments, companies, and civil society to strengthen corporate accountability and move from voluntary pledges to real climate action.
