The Indie Book Lab: When Less is More. Designing for Sustainability
When we think about a “real” book, many of us imagine something thick and weighty. But what if fewer pages could actually mean more impact?
Join The Indie Book Lab, hosted by Karolina Wudniak, for a conversation with Jazmin Welch about thoughtful, sustainable book design. We’ll explore how elements like typography, margins, and paper selection can reduce your page count and environmental footprint while keeping your book as beautiful, readable, and inviting as ever.
My guest, Jazmin Welch (call her Jaz), is the owner of fleck creative studio and book designer at Arsenal Pulp Press. She works with a wide range of indie presses, organizations and authors. She focuses on creating compelling and page-turning designs that stand out on bookshelves, resonate with readers and respect each author’s unique point of view. Jaz is a book lover at heart who is ready to advocate for your story and impress your readers! As a nature lover, the environment is top of mind in her practice, and she is always looking for new ways to bring sustainability into the world of book design.
Together, we’ll discuss how intentional design can help you craft books that care for the planet, challenging the old notion that a book needs to be bulky to be valuable.
In the second half of the session, we’ll look at how publishing timelines differ when publishing traditionally versus self-publishing, helping you plan your path with confidence and clarity.
Come ready to rethink what “enough” means in book design. You’ll walk away with fresh insights, practical guidance, and creative inspiration to bring your vision to life beautifully, sustainably, and with heart.
There is no cost to attend, and a replay will be shared with all registered attendees.
