Connecting Cultures; storytelling through threadwork
The threads embellishing our clothing hold a rich story. When we become quiet, we can trace a journey that spans cultures, continents and generations.
Immerse yourself in the elegant art of Kantha Embroidery, a craft that originated in India and traveled through to Portugal in the 16th century. This practice is rooted in home-made local traditions of slow creation, telling stories through fantastical nature motifs and whimsical patterns.
In this 2,5 hour workshop we will learn about the stories of Kantha embroidery and then be guided through the technique by women skilled in the technique, creating an ornament that can be gifted or hung on a tree.
All materials will be provided, as well as tea and a light refreshment ✨
