Hiring with Intentionality in Nature Tech
For most early-stage teams, a hire is one of the biggest bets they’ll make — and too often, it’s treated like one. Sam Clayton of Anthology Global makes the case that it doesn’t have to be. In this session, he walks through a practical approach to hiring for nature tech and impact teams: one built around a specific business goal, not a placement.
What we’ll cover
Why hiring goes wrong. The habits that turn a hire into a gamble: generic job specs, requirements that narrow the field without predicting success, hard parts of the role left unsaid until they surface later.
A three-step approach. Get clear on the values and character someone needs to thrive on your team. Define what the role has to achieve in the next one to two years, not just its day-to-day tasks. Then run search and selection with the conviction that comes from having done the first two steps properly.
What’s different in nature tech. The tension between mission and commercial survival runs straight into hiring decisions. Does someone need to be driven by the bigger picture to succeed in the role? Does a niche function actually require niche experience?
