What's really inside your skincare, shampoo, or sunscreen? On Sunday, October 4th, join us for an evening of community, conversation, and conscious beauty at The Sea House in Encinitas.
Hosted by Indiefog Naturals, Naturally San Diego, and the San Diego Environmental Film Festival, Read the Label brings together beauty experts, formulators, and everyday consumers for a night dedicated to one question: what are we actually putting on our bodies?
The evening kicks off with a curated Non-Toxic Mini Market, shop directly from 6+ brands leading the clean living movement, followed by a live panel discussion featuring founders, advocates, and industry voices at the forefront of safer beauty. We close the night with a screening of Pretty Ugly, an award-winning documentary that pulls back the curtain on the cosmetics industry and the toxic ingredients hiding in plain sight.

THE FILM
Pretty Ugly is a face-off between toxic chemicals in personal products and one conscientious consumer on a quest for answers. Filmmaker Andrea Palombella travels across the United States to investigate the most harmful ingredients in cosmetics — lead, phthalates, toluene — and explores how these chemicals are linked to disease. With interviews from experts at the National Institutes of Health, the Environmental Working Group, and Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, alongside personal stories from those affected, the film asks a simple but urgent question: why are Americans still in the dark about what they put on their bodies every day?
Spoiler: not much has changed since Victorian women used arsenic to lighten their skin.
