Build week launch - come & share an idea!
Build Week: What Are We Making?
Commons University — Automation for the People
We've spent the last few weeks reading, discussing and mapping the terrain. Now it's time to start thinking about building & doing.
This is the opening session of Build Week — not a decision-making meeting, but a space to seed a shared vision. Anyone can bring a proposal: something they want to make, pursue, or put into the world before October 1st. Each proposal gets 10 minutes to present and 5 minutes of questions, minimal prep needed. At the end we talk together about what's in the room, and what could be woven in together.
What counts as a proposal is deliberately wide. We're interested in:
New legal instruments: trademarks for conviviality, patents for the commons, laws that don't yet exist
Autonomous institutions designed to steward public goods outside market and state logic
AI systems that serve the commons rather than extract from it, including Kami-style agentic designs that act as custodians of shared resources
Activist interventions, research syntheses, manifestos, demands
The question guiding everything: if automation is to serve collective liberation rather than extraction, what do we actually need to build — and what can we start now?
Proposals welcome from all.
