San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance & Scripps Institution of Oceanography: How are San Diego Scientists Working to Safeguard Earth's Wildlife?

​Kelp forests are a cornerstone of California's coastal ecosystem, providing habitat for marine life and supporting local fisheries and coastal economies, yet San Diego's kelp forests are increasingly threatened by warming ocean temperatures. UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography and San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance are partnering to help kelp populations become more resilient to these changes.

​During this panel conversation, discover how local biobanking and cryopreservation efforts, paired with digital tools, are helping San Diego scientists protect and restore imperiled species along the California coast. The event will also discuss the innovation of advanced conservation technologies, such as digital twins to replicate physical environments to model local ecosystem response to the impacts of climate events on biodiversity and local communities.

​Co-hosted by UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography and San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, whose local research, biobanking work, and collaboration is helping protect San Diego's wildlife and marine ecosystems from the effects of climate change.
