About Event

Do you have a pair of ripped jeans? A sweater with moth holes? Pants that are too long? Join us for the visible mending workshop in which you will be part of a group that will help you learn creative techniques to mend using the Japanese method of sashiko. Bring a knitwear garment that needs mending to the workshop. Additional supplies, such as fabric, embroidery floss, sewing needles, and yarn, will be provided.

According to philosopher Kate Moran, “Worldwide, human beings ‘acquire 80 billion apparel items annually, ' and each article of clothing is worn an average of seven times before it is disposed of.’” If we can extend the use of our clothing through the adoption of mending techniques, it creates unique pieces and fosters a more sustainable approach to fashion.
